At The Attuned Community School, we believe that education should be an individual journey tailored to each student. We understand that every individual learns differently and have created a learning environment that is both nurturing and stimulating. Our Guides create a journey fueled by– curiosity, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking – they help to shape our curriculum and provide an invaluable tool for our learners. With our unique approach to teaching, our learners are able to develop the skills and knowledge they need to become successful individuals.
Latoya Nelson
Founder/Lead Guide
Latoya is an educator with over ten years of experience specializing in conscious discipline, trauma-informed practices, autism support, and behavior management.
Her journey began with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology, where she developed a deep understanding of the social dynamics that impact learning and behavior. Building on this foundation, she pursued a Masters of Education in Special Education, equipping herself with the knowledge and skills necessary to support students with diverse needs.
Driven by a desire to create inclusive and empowering learning environments for children who are in foster/kinship care or adoptive families, Latoya furthered her expertise by earning a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction in Trauma and Resilience in the Classroom. This specialized training allowed her to effectively address the unique challenges faced by students who have experienced trauma. Currently, she is pursuing an Ed.D in Trauma Informed Educational Practices, fueling her commitment to continuously expand her knowledge and contribute to the field.
Latoya's approach is grounded in empathy, compassion, and a firm belief in the transformative power of education. She actively seeks out evidence-based strategies and incorporates them into her teaching practices, ensuring each student receives personalized support tailored to their specific needs. Through her expertise and unwavering dedication, Latoya strives to empower students, promote resilience, and create a positive impact on their educational journeys.
